Welcome to Springfest in Egypt!
As you might have
discerned the focus here is food, glorious food!
On the following pages you'll find information about the diet of the ancient Egyptians, the types of foods they consumed and
their cooking practices. While no true recipes exist much can be inferred by the diet of modern Egyptians, tomb paintings and
artifacts found in tombs all of which suggest the range of foods consumed. Ovens remain, as do those areas within homes where
food was prepared. Much can be gleaned from this.
You'll find recipes inspired by the ancient Egyptians. A brief section looks at the related area of herbs and other organic material used in the
treatment of ailments. Ailments caused by malevolent spirits, curses and wilful gods. The ancient Egyptians lived in a land of
plenty bordered by a hostile desert. The Hap with its yearly Inundation ensured
that food was varied and plentiful for those who could afford to indulge in a broad range of foodstuffs. For the less wealthy, daily fare was a simpler
affair.
